Learning Process

I created the Program Development Dashboard in Smartsheet. The tool allowed me to create a dashboard which displays robust reports for tracking budget as well as current and upcoming course developments; task status; and an overview of the program development. Additionally, I designed the Online Course Development Closure and Checklist in Trello (Image 1). This checklist uses the Kanban method to track tasks related individual course developments.

Initially, I examined the needs of the Engineering Department to develop a new Cybersecurity program. I determined the purpose, goals, stakeholders, and project scope. I also reviewed which key performance indicators (KPI) would best determine the success of managing individual developments while aligning with the needs of administrators, subject matter experts, faculty, and students. This analysis provided a foundation to structure the system.

As I worked through the Course Project, I determined the system could be scalable. I decided to pilot the system with the Cybersecurity program with the intent to bring it to the eLearning Workflow taskforce a tool to improve the team’s project management. I adjusted the system with the team’s various roles, needs, and contexts in mind.

Reflection

The idea for the system comes my experience as an instructional designer who designs and develops courses for programs. However, the Course Project allowed me to plan and execute project management activities from beginning to end—which directly impacts the design, development, and implementation of a successful learning solution. It also helped me to apply strategy as I considered the sustainability and scalability of expanding the project management dashboard system to the eLearning team.
